Today I will be sharing with you my first time making Cold Process Soap. Let me begin by saying I am not a professional soapmaker. This is a new interest of mine and I simply want to share my experience with other people who may be interested in soapmaking.
I purchased the Beginners Cold Process Soap Making Kit from Brambleberry.com this box retails for $59.99 on their website.
This Kit includes:
10 inch silicone mold
Sodium Hydroxide Lye
Apple Sage Fragrance Oil
Here are some additional items that you will need to make this soap:
Soap Safety Glasses
Spoon or Silicone Spatula
Large Mixing Container
Before you begin make sure to read the instructions that come with your soap making kit and follow these instructions carefully. Make sure to wear gloves and a mask and mix your lye in a well ventilated area. This was my first experience working with lye and I was surprised at how breathtaking it was.
Lye can be dangerous if it’s not handled properly. Learn how to work with it safely before getting started. Find out how much to use in your recipe with the Lye Calculator. With safety gear on, gloves, goggles, long sleeves, carefully measure the lye into a glass container. Measure distilled water or other liquid into a separate container. Slowly pour the lye into the liquid, never the other way around, and stir until it’s dissolved. Let cool and then pour into oils.
I hope that you found this video interesting and that you will give soap making a try.
Leave a comment below and let me know what kind of soap you would like to make or what kind I should make next.
